Coconut oil fatty acids are mixed fatty acids made from coconut oil through saponification, acidification and other processes. The main components include linear and unsaturated fatty acids such as caprylic acid, decanoic acid, dodecanoic acid and tetradecanoic acid. It appears as a white or light yellow liquid at room temperature and is easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. It is mainly used in chemical fields such as surfactants, textile auxiliaries, and liquid detergents, and can also be used as a raw material for soap and alkyd resin modification
The derivative product of this fatty acid, coconut oil fatty acid diethanolamide (CDEA), is a non-ionic surfactant. The production process includes direct synthesis, one-step method, and methyl ester two-step method, among which the methyl ester method has become the mainstream process due to its high purity of the finished product. In recent years, the rise in raw material costs has prompted some producers to replace coconut oil with palm oil, resulting in changes in the viscosity of finished products and the emergence of high viscosity and ultra high viscosity models
